A path with heart

Staff and FUN Champs at Off the Grid Festival

"For me there is only the traveling on the paths that have a heart, on any path that may have a heart. There I travel, and the only worthwhile challenge for me is to traverse its full length. And there I travel--looking, looking, breathlessly." - Carlos Castaneda

It has always been a path with heart with FUN Society. It was a heart-filled path that led to FUN Society's creation and expansion. And it is something that will be at the core of this organization and all of our programs for all time. Sometimes it is easy to get lost in the details of the overwhelming job of making the organization run smoothly and beautifully. But even when we lose sight of it for a micro-moment, heart is always there, and it is silently guiding us through every task we do and turn we make.

Heart is found in the FUN Campers and their big smiles and gleeful laughs. Heart is found in the FUN Champs' passions and dedication. Heart is found in the moments of success, both big and small.  Heart is found in the beautiful volunteers who give up their time to share their passion, skills and talents with us.  Heart is found in the sponsors and donors who believe in us and who share our vision for a better world. Heart is found in the knowledge that we are all connected and that together we are powerful. Heart is found in the spirit and wisdom of the staff who manage to find their way to us and make FUN Society their home for a short, or a long, time. Heart is found in the organizations that we collaborate with, who we admire and learn from.

Heart is everywhere on this path.

We had a hugely heart-filled day at the end of April when we were able to participate in the Off The Grid Festival - a youth climate action summit and music festival run on solar and pedal power that is put on by one of our heart-filled collaborators Judy Fainstein of YesBC! Our ED and a board member are shown in the photo above with two of our FUN Champs, after dancing up a storm at the end of the festival.  As their FUN Champs project Reina and Liv created an interactive and educational presentation about oil tanker traffic and pipelines on the BC coast, and they presented to a group of 30 middle school students earlier that day as one of the summit workshops. They have delivered this presentation at schools all around Victoria.  It is moments like these when passions, youth, bicycles, dancing, collaborators and learning all come together that you don't have to look too far in any direction to see that you are on the right path, and that the path has some serious heart.
