Del To Durban

FUN-Del to Durban is FUN Society’s Delegation to COP17, the United Nations climate negotiations in Durban, South Africa.  This delegation consists of people who are keen on engaging youth and children in environmental issues and helping to make sure youth’s voices are heard.  The focus of this delegation is environmental education and youth empowerment.  FUN-Del is made up of two segments: a small group of people who travel to Durban and a support team that works virtually with participants in Durban as well as youth in their own community.

The main role of FUN-Del is to use COP17 as a platform for climate education and to engage and involve kids from the local community of Durban in the buzz that is created by the conference.  This will include:

- developing climate-focused community engagement projects with youth;

- creating educational workshops;

- organizing a side-event at the conference;

- facilitating virtual discussions between youth in Durban and Canada;

- organizing youth-focused actions in the community to generate media attention and raise awareness about the effect of climate change on youth around the world.

FUN Delegates will strive to ensure what is happening inside the conference is shared with youth in the community, and that the concerns and vision of local youth are being shared inside the conference centre. As climate change is global in scope we will also focus on the importance of connecting youth around the world.
